Notes: First dance with Stephanie. Incredible milonga with Sylvia. I didn't give Elsa my best dance because I was distracted watching Ricardo. When I was dancing with Ronda, the music stopped. Everyone on the floor stopped at the same time as well we should have. Ronda was impressed. Danced with Ronda past Ricardo's Reserved Table and I heard him say, "I like it." I imagined that he was refering to us. On another pass he said, "He trained in Buenos Aires." I did take a Private Lesson from Ricardo in Buenos Aires. But most of the Atlanta Tango Community has trained in Buenos Aires. Alan explained that Ricardo would not do a "performance" as he is not a "performer." Instead, he danced a "demonstration" with Barbara. Horacio was singing and dancing like a gitano. He knows all the words to all the tangos. Ricardo brought roses for all the women. Nice touch. Exquisite tango with Magdalena. Last dance with Barbara. Regrets: Electrical short in the speaker.

Tango in Austin

Notes: Birthday dance for Glenn who turned 39. Really! I didn't tip the band enough. Barbara tipped a lot explaining how she was married so long to a Musician and everyone should tip Musicisans a lot. So I felt guilty. When I get to Tango Heaven St. Peter will ask me, "And how much did you tip Glovertango?" So I went back to the well and put more dollars in. Meanwhile Sylvia who was passing the plate said she knew in advance who would tip and who wouldn't and who was naughty and who was nice because she was an expert studying Anthropology of The Dance. Caught Sheila's eye with a cabeceo across the crowded room. We danced a good set. She said that she remembered me from my last visit to Austin. Regrets: The heat: It was sweathog hot. Where is the AC? The duration: Two hours is not enough Glovertango. The noise: The volume on Glovertango was just fine. The recorded music was inaudible. The tandas: There were none. Some of the Austinite dancers may not understand that dancing only one dance is an insult. The wine: How parochical for an Italian Bistro to serve only Italian wine. I had to settle for a Chianti Classico rather than a Chilean Carmenere. trEATS: Burger at the Waterloo Ice House. 3rd Regional Tango Weekend, Asheville, NC

BEST OF THE WEEKEND The best tango was with Eva. The best milonga con traspie was with Brandy. The best connection was with CJ. The best cortina was with Zermah. Heidi was the most responsive to feedback. Paula danced like a porteña and she had shoes from Comme il Faut! Betina and Harby were the most acrobatic couple. Last, but not least, Horacio had the best looking suspenders / braces / tirantes. Guapo! trEATS: Steak at the Bistro 1896 as a party of one. Monday morning breakfast at the Early Girl Eatery. Late Afternoon Practica Venue: Kenilworth Inn Sponsor: Tango Asheville at www.tangoasheville.com. Dancecard: Emily, Heidi and Karen. Notes: Left early in search of protein. Early Afternoon Practica Venue: Biltmore Forest Townhall DJ: Horacio from Buenos Aires and Atlanta Dancecard: Betina from NYC, Brandy from Augusta, Eva from Charlotte, Georgi, Heidi from Asheville, Helen from Charlotte, Katherine from Charleston, Marie France from Charleston, Paula from Willmington and Zermah from Greenville. Notes: I ask Eva to dance. She says NO. She was waiting to dance with Horacio! Oh my! Oh my! Now the women are in line to dance with Horacio! After her dance with Horacio she comes back to me. I get the consolation prize. But we dance a very good tango. I tried to make it better than her dance with Horacio. But how will I ever know? She did invite me to her Milonga at the Carolina Golf and Country Club in Charlotte on August 27th. But she says that they don't have enough Leaders. All I want in all my dreams is that next year when Horacio asks Eva to dance she will say, "NO. I'm waiting to dance with Neil." But that dream will never come true. Horacio is from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is an Instructor. He is a DJ. He is a World Famous Milonguero. I'm just his parrot: All I say is, "Guapo! Guapo! Guapo!"
